Ingredients

For the Turkey Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup minced parsley

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

Olive oil, for cooking

For the Marinara Sauce:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced parsley, egg, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brown the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the meatballs in batches until they are brown on all sides. This should take about 4-5 minutes per batch. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Make the Marinara Sauce: In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Simmer the Sauce: Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, dried oregano, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes to develop flavors.

Combine Meatballs with Sauce: Gently add the browned meatballs into the marinara sauce. Cover and let them simmer for another 15-20 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.

Serve: Once cooked, serve the turkey meatballs in a bowl, garnished with fresh basil leaves. This dish pairs beautifully with spaghetti, crusty bread, or a fresh green salad.
