The origins of tiramisu can be traced back to the Veneto region of Italy, with its first documented appearance in the 1960s. While its exact origins are somewhat murky, it is believed to have been created in the town of Treviso. Traditionally, tiramisu was designed as a pick-me-up for those feeling fatigued, thanks to its energizing ingredients like espresso and cocoa. The dessert quickly gained popularity, becoming a fixture on Italian restaurant menus worldwide.

Ingredients

1 cup mascarpone cheese

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup brewed espresso, cooled

1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)

2 cups chocolate cookies, finely crushed

1 cup dark chocolate, melted

Cocoa powder, for dusting

Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, whip the mixture until stiff peaks form.

Gradually fold in the cooled espresso and coffee liqueur until everything is well combined.

Gently incorporate the finely crushed chocolate cookies into the mixture, mixing until evenly distributed.

Refrigerate the mixture for about 30 minutes to firm up.

Once chilled, use a melon baller or your hands to scoop out small portions and roll them into balls (about 1 inch in diameter).

Place the formed truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for another 30 minutes.

After the truffles have firmed up, dip each one in the melted dark chocolate, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Return the chocolate-covered truffles to the baking sheet and dust them with cocoa powder before they set.

For an extra touch, sprinkle chocolate shavings on top of the dusted truffles.

Refrigerate until the chocolate coating is set, about 15 minutes. Serve chilled and enjoy your decadent Tiramisu Truffles!
