Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed (110°F/43°C)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)

2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (optional, for icing)

2-3 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour, melted butter, eggs, warm yeast mixture, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. If it’s sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.

Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter until well combined.

Roll Out Dough: Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle, approximately 16x12 inches.

Add Filling: Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Roll Up: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.

Cut Rolls: Using a sharp knife or dental floss, slice the log into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap or a towel and allow them to rise for about 30 minutes until puffy.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. They should be soft and gooey.

Prepare Icing: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, softened cream cheese (if using), and milk until smooth.

Ice Rolls: Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing over the warm rolls.

Serve & Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy your delightful homemade cinnamon rolls!
