Ingredients

2 boneless sirloin steaks (about 1-inch thick)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (optional)

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Fresh mozzarella cheese slices (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Steak: Season both sides of the sirloin steaks with salt and pepper. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Sear the Steak: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the steaks and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust the cooking time according to your preferred doneness. Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and tent them with foil to keep warm.

Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes, stirring well.

Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Let the sauce simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly. If using, add the sliced bell peppers and continue to cook until they soften, about 3-4 minutes.

Combine and Simmer: Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. If desired, add slices of fresh mozzarella on top of the steaks. Cover the skillet and let simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese has melted and the steak is heated through.

Serve: Plate the steaks, spooning more sauce and bell peppers on top. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
