Ingredients

12 oz fresh cranberries, rinsed

1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2-3 oranges)

Zest of 1 orange

1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

1/2 cup water

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp salt

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, orange juice, water, and sugar. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

Add the orange zest, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt to the mixture. Stir again to combine.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer.

Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. You'll hear the cranberries pop as they cook.

Once the sauce thickens and the cranberries have mostly burst, remove it from the heat. If using nuts, fold them into the sauce at this step.

Let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools.

Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or airtight container and refrigerate if not serving immediately. The sauce can be made up to 2 weeks in advance.
