Ground beef serves as the heart of this dish. It is a versatile protein source that can be found in many kitchens around the world. When selecting ground beef, you’ll want to choose a lean variety, typically 80% lean and 20% fat, which strikes a perfect balance between flavor and healthiness. The fat renders down during cooking, adding richness to the dish without becoming overly greasy. Ground beef is not only packed with protein but also provides essential nutrients like iron, zinc, and B vitamins, making it a great choice for a nutritious meal.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

2 cups broccoli florets

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Sesame seeds for garnish

Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, water, and minced ginger (if using). Set this sauce mixture aside.

Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant.

Stir in the Broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the skillet. Pour in about a tablespoon of water to help steam the broccoli. Cover and cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender but still vibrant green.

Combine Sauce and Beef: Reduce heat to medium, then stir the honey garlic sauce into the skillet with the beef and broccoli mix. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until the sauce thickens and coats everything nicely.

Serve: Remove from heat and serve over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
