Ingredients

6 large croissants, torn into pieces

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup maple syrup (plus more for serving)

1/2 cup fresh berries (e.g., blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.

Arrange the Croissants: Tear the croissants into bite-sized pieces and evenly distribute them in the prepared baking dish.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined and smooth.

Combine and Soak: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, pressing down gently to ensure they soak up the custard. If desired, sprinkle the fresh berries on top of the mixture for added flavor.

Chill (Optional): For a deeper flavor, you can cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, to allow the croissants to absorb the custard.

Bake: Remove the dish from the refrigerator, if chilled. Drizzle the maple syrup evenly over the top of the casserole, then place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, allow the casserole to cool for about 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve warm with additional maple syrup and fresh berries on the side.
