Ingredients
  

1 box of chocolate or vanilla cake mix (and ingredients as required to prepare)

2 pints of your favorite ice cream (softened, choose different flavors for layers)

1 container of whipped topping (8 oz, thawed)

1/2 cup chocolate or caramel sauce (for drizzling)

1 cup crushed cookies or candy (like Oreos, M&Ms, or nuts, for garnish)

Optional: sprinkles for decoration

Prepare the Cake: Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Prepare the cake batter according to package directions, then divide it equally between both pans. Bake as directed and allow to cool completely in the pans.

    Prepare the Ice Cream Layers: While the cake is cooling, take the softened ice cream and gently mix to soften it further (but not melt). You can choose to create different flavored layers or two layers of the same flavor. Spread one flavor into a 9-inch round cake pan and level it out evenly. Repeat with the second flavor, if using. Freeze for at least 3 hours or until solid.

      Layering Time: Once the cake layers are completely cooled and the ice cream layers are frozen, it's time to assemble the cake. Start by placing one cake layer on a serving platter.

        Add Ice Cream: Remove the first ice cream layer from the freezer. To do this easily, warm the sides of the cake pan with your hands for a few seconds, then flip it onto the cake layer. The ice cream should come right out. Spread a layer of whipped topping over the ice cream. Drizzle a bit of chocolate or caramel sauce over the whipped topping.

          Repeat Layers: Place the second cake layer on top of the whipped topping. Remove the second ice cream layer from the freezer in the same manner and place it on top of the cake. Finish with another layer of whipped topping.

            Decorate: Drizzle the remaining chocolate or caramel sauce over the top, and sprinkle crushed cookies or candy on top, along with some sprinkles if desired.

              Freeze Again: Place the assembled cake back in the freezer for about 2-3 hours to firm up before serving.
