Ingredients

1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the box)

1 cup chopped pecans (toasted if desired)

1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

1 cup butterscotch or caramel sauce

1 tub (8 ounces) whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

1/2 cup miniature marshmallows (optional)

Additional chopped pecans for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Cake: Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan. Prepare the cake batter as directed on the box and pour it into the prepared pan.

Bake: Bake the cake according to package instructions until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.

Poke Holes: Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a fork, poke holes all over the top of the warm cake, making sure to create holes in various spots.

Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the poked holes, allowing it to soak into the cake. Pat the chopped pecans into the top of the cake so they stick.

Drizzle Sauce: Pour the butterscotch or caramel sauce over the cake, spreading it gently to cover as much surface area as possible.

Top with Whipped Topping: Spread the whipped topping over the entire cake, smoothing it out with a spatula.

Garnish: If using, sprinkle miniature marshmallows and additional chopped pecans on top for decoration.

Chill: Cover the cake and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to absorb the moisture.

Serve: Cut into squares and enjoy the luscious layers of buttery, nutty goodness!

Prep Time: 25 minutes | Total Time: 3 hours (includes chilling) | Servings: 12-15 slices
