To appreciate the Cheeseburger Tater Tot Bites, it’s essential to understand the origins of tater tots themselves. Tater tots were invented in the 1950s by the founders of Ore-Ida, a company based in Oregon that specialized in frozen potato products. The story goes that when the company was looking for a way to utilize leftover potato scraps, they decided to grate and fry the potatoes, resulting in the crispy, bite-sized morsels we now know and love. Tater tots quickly became a staple in American households, celebrated for their versatility as both a side dish and a snack.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup diced pickles

1 cup ketchup

3 cups frozen tater tots

1/2 cup diced onions (optional)

Fresh minced parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the beef. Mix well and remove from heat.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef, shredded cheddar cheese, and diced pickles. Mix until all ingredients are well integrated.

Take a tater tot and flatten it slightly in your hand. Place a spoonful of the cheeseburger mixture in the center and fold the edges of the tater tot around it, forming a bite-sized ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.

Place the filled tater tot bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If desired, sprinkle on diced onions to some of the bites for added flavor.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with ketchup on the side for dipping.

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.
