Ingredients

For the Cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk

3 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)

For the Praline Topping:

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter

1 tablespoon heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)

For the Butter Pecan Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

¼ cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Prepare the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans gently.

Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare the Praline Topping: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and butter, stirring until melted and smooth. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla. Bring to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat and fold in the chopped pecans. Set aside to cool slightly.

Make the Butter Pecan Frosting: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla, beating until smooth and fluffy. Fold in the chopped pecans.

Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a cake plate. Spread a generous layer of butter pecan frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining butter pecan frosting.

Add the Praline Topping: Drizzle the prepared praline topping over the frosted cake, allowing it to drip down the sides for an elegant look.

Serve and Enjoy: Slice the cake, serve, and watch everyone revel in its rich, buttery goodness!
